In 2009, of the 405,900 tons of material received at East End Resource Recovery, 170,646 tons were recycled, achieving a recycling rate of 42%.

These results will help Henrico County meet its state-mandated recycling rate of 25% annually. These materials would otherwise have been disposed of, using up valuable landfill space.

Tires are littering thousands of acres across Virginia. The company sends equipment to illegal and otherwise abandoned tire dumpsites and recycles those tires.  The repurposed material is carted away and used as a substitute for other natural resources in civil construction projects by East End Resource Recovery and other end users. In 2009, more than 1,185 tons of tires were recovered.  In 2010, the company expects to recycle a half-million tires, which is the equivalent to 5000 tons or 10 million pounds of passenger tires. 

Biomass materials are created from recovered brush and wood products (excludes pressure treated or creosote treated), which are ground to a small size and sold as fuel to fire furnaces. More than 3,759 tons were recovered and sold in 2009.

Metals are harvested from the incoming waste stream. Ferrous and non-ferrous metals are separated and processed at our state-of-the-art metals recycling facility and sold to end users to be made into new consumables. This service is also available to other area manufacturers that wish to implement sustainable practices and utilize this service offered by East End Resource Recovery.
